WCI Rail Jam

Chas Guldemond takes the win and $15,000 for the weekend.
In a sweeping performance of the West Coast Invitational Chas Guldemond, dominated the field at the WCI rail jam on Saturday night in a winner take all $10,000 throwdown.
Rising up against the threat from riders such as Lucas Magoon, Dan Brise, Trevor Jacobs, Niko Ciofi, Torstein Horgmo, Cameron Pierce, and Darrell Mathes among others, Chas carried the momentum he gained from winning the Fiesta De La Pipa on Friday before the thousands packed into Mammoth’s main Village.
The West Coast Invitational is an annual event in Mammoth that essentially serves as the last call for the competitive shred season in California. Competitors weary from a long winter and event attendees looking to squeeze the last remnant of snow-filled action, file into Mammoth’s village for urban jib session and the all out mayhem that ensues up in the Canyon Lodge after party.
Prior to it all going to eleven via pepper spray and police mayhem, the WCI rail jam lived up to the expectation of yet another rail jam. A plethora of variations were thrown by the riders who got after it in the winner-take-all format. Front boards, back lips, switch back tails, 270s on and off, hardways both ways, creeper ledge 5-0s and even box to down rail transfers. It was a cacophony of jib jibbery.
But despite especially strong performances by Gooner, Pierce, Jacobs and Brise; Guldemond was on fire. Super sick gap to front boards over the creeper rail followed by gap transfers from the box to the down rail, not to mention a whole array of spinning variations on both the down rail and the down flat down.
When asked how he put together such a strong weekend performance he laughed, saying, “I’m pretty stoked, I’m feeling pretty consistent right now. Having a good time…things are working out.”
We can’t agree more. $15,000 during one weekend in May. It’s gonna be a good summer.
